Toy World Adelaide CBD

Now that the Toys R Us in the iconic Renaissance building has been replaced with a K-Mart, Toyworld in the Myer Centre is one of the few toy shops available in the CBD. Excluding smaller specialty stores which have some great toys, this Toy World has one of the best ranges in the whole of Adelaide.



If you prefer classic wooden toys there isn't much of a range available, it's pretty much all plastic fantastic, but they've got great ranges of brands including Schleich, LEGO, and Mattel.

It's refreshing to see Barbie as a doctor, vet, and flight attendent, instead of rows of beach barbies and not much else. You actually build your lego sets out of parts, rather than just clicking several large pieces together, and things like washing machines and kitchens come in colour schemes other than pink. It really is hard to find a good toy store these days, but Toy World seems to have it all.





Prices seemed to be pretty similar to most toy stores, with quite a few of the items on special. Although it's very tempting to spend a lot of money here.

Toy World manages to capture some of the magic of toy stores, where it's just as fun to explore the toy store as it is to come home with a toy. There are even lucky dips and gum ball machines, so it's always somewhere you can pop in for a small treat, even if you're only spending $2.

The 4-year-old was asleep in the pram, but the 11-year-olds favourite part was all the lego. There was so much stuff she just stared at it wide eyed.



It's not a wonderland for the design obsessed mum or dad, but for kids will find the store incredible. Whether your buying for your own kids, or for someone else's, you're likely to be able to find something here.

If there's one main negative, it's that the store has terrible lighting, and can be very dark in some places. It doesn't really fit with the toy store feel.
